AHPA Goldenseal Study

The Mueggenburg Group is proud to renew its support for the AHPA ERB foundation’s Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) study. The purpose of this study is to have more of an understanding of harvesting impacts on natural and forest-farmed goldenseal. Considered an endangered species under the CITES treaty, wild and forest farmed goldenseal root may only be used in domestic production, whereas cultivated goldenseal root may be eligible for export, subject to meeting standards set by the USDFW.

As stakeholders in the wild-crafted and cultivated goldenseal market, this significate study is important to provide further insight into the current state of the wild goldenseal population while guiding sustainable harvesting practices to ensure continued commercial availability for this remarkable herb.

In 2021, Mueggenburg Farms Inc transplanted cultivated goldenseal rootstock from Sego’s Herb Farm here in the Pacific Northwest to continue the cultivation of goldenseal root and herb. As one of the few farms left to cultivate goldenseal root, we are proud to continue the tradition of producing this endangered crop under the CITES supervision to ensure continued supply for our international clients.
